Youth baseball: BEACH DAWGS win 2 games in pool play 2/18/12
NATIONS WINTER NATIONALS -- The Bradenton BEACH DAWGS beat the Suncoast Athletics 11-3 and the Florida Curve 2-1. Logan O’Leary threw a complete game, striking out six , and Luka Torralva had three hits in the nightcap.
Youth baseball: BEACHDAWGS win tournament 2/13/12
The Bradenton BEACHDAWGS, a travel baseball team for ages 10 and under, won the Border Wars I tournament in Tampa on Sunday after two victories and improved to 10-10 for the season.
In the first game, Bradenton beat the South Lakeland Flying Tigers 9-1 as Lucas Hartman pitched three innings and struck out two for the victory. Hartman also was 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored. Luka Torralva went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a double. Spencer Stephens was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs and two runs. Logan O’Leary was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two stolen bases, and A.J. Thompson chipped in two RBIs.
In the championship game, the BEACHDAWGS beat the Dunedin Diamondbacks 11-4. Noah Font pitched three innings, fanning five for the win. Thompson picked up the save and went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two steals. Stephens added three RBIs; Torralva was 2-for-2, scoring twice and stealing two bags; and Andrew Procter scored two runs and had three steals.
The team will play an exhibition at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday at the G.T. Bray softball field.
BEACH DAWGS split DH 1/17/12
The Bradenton BEACH DAWGS (5-4) split a doubleheader against the Charlotte Thunder on Sunday. They lost the first game 11-7, but finished strong with a 16-7 win in the second game.
Luka Torralva was 3-for-6 over both games with four runs and four stolen bases. Lucas Hartman went 4-for-6 with three runs, six RBIs and two doubles. Spencer Stephens was 4-for-5 with three RBIs and two stolen bases. Noah Font was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and pitched three innings in the second game, striking out eight and recording the victory. The BEACH DAWGS play their next game at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Palma Sola Park.
BEACH DAWGS sweep DH 1/15/12
BRADENTON BEACH DAWGS 12-9, RIVERVIEW ROCKETS 1-6 -- The Bradenton BEACH DAWGS, a 10U travel team, swept a double-header at Palma Sola Park to improve to 4-3.
Luka Torralva went 3-5 with two RBIs and three stolen bases. Lucas Hartman was 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI. A.J Thompson was 1-for-2 with four walks and four stolen bases.
Hartman pitched three innings, striking out six for the victory in game 1. Logan O’Leary was perfect in two innings for the save.
Noah Font earned the win in game 2, pitching three innings and striking out 8.
DAWGS days of winter 1/10/12
The Bradenton BEACH DAWGS, a U-10 travel baseball team, played its first doubleheader of the season against the Bloomingdale Bullsharks on Saturday. Bradenton split the twinbill, losing 9-6 and winning the second game 13-12. Leading hitters for the BEACH DAWGS were: Andrew Procter (2-for-5, two RBIs, two runs), A.J. Thompson (2-for-5, double, three runs, three stolen bases), Logan O’Leary (2-for-3, RBI, walk, three stolen bases), Spencer Stephens (2-for-4, two RBIs) and Jake Platko (three RBIs). Lucas Hartman pitched two innings and allowed one earned run while striking out four batters to pick up the win in Game 2.
