BEACH DAWGS baseball has one goal: develop players for the next level. we teach our players to play the game the right way- play hard, play smart, and play right. our players learn when to take a pitch, the right counts to steal bases, proper cut-offs, pickoffs and run-downs and much more. while our goal is to win every tournament we enter, we will not play bad baseball to get those wins. our focus is preparing our players to make decisions on their own, and that comes through repetition, practice, and failure. if you don't try, you'll never know.
something that is noticeably different with BEACH DAWGS baseball: we don't scream at our players. we don't coach robots, we coach developing players. experience is gained through trial and error, and we alway encourage our players to give it their 100% effort. however, we do not accept failure, we just look at as something that's a part of the game. we aren't satisfied with a strikeout because we "took a good swing". we don't say "good try" when a fielder misplays a routine ground ball. we separate mental mistakes from physical mistakes: physical mistakes happen from time to time. mental mistakes are unacceptable, and come from a lack of focus and effort.
for our elite travel ball teams playing in tournaments, all playing time is earned. nothing is a given. we do not reward a lazy attitude and an unfocused mind with 3 at-bats in the game. not only is it unfair to the player behind him who works hard, but it's unfair to the team to reward that behavior.
we also have developmental teams that only play exhibitions and double headers. these games are for learning the game, and provide an opportunity for less advanced players hone their skills as they strive to crack that elite roster.
